Harvest Event – Making the most of a bumper harvest!

12-3pm on Sunday 13th October 2013
Hyde Park, Lodge Lane, Hyde

‘Waste Not Want Not’ culminates with a grand Harvest family day out in Hyde Park – and it’s all free!

The event will feature a range of fun activities related to fruit and harvest, celebrating the efforts of the volunteers we’ve been working with to reduce food waste through jam and preserves making, cooking skills, Abundance social scrumping and composting.

There’s going to be loads of activities on offer during the day including Fruit pressing; Waste themed crafts; Storytelling & poetry; Fruit Tree experts, apple tasting, orchard facts; Good Old Family Fun – longest peel competition and apple bobbing; Composting workshops; Cooking demonstrations; Scarecrow Festival plus the Park Café will be open for drinks & snacks.

The event will feature a Haggle & Barter swap table with home-grown produce, home bakes, preserves and juice. Kids stuff from Woodland Activities will be using foraged blackberries as a dye to make bandanas.

This is the forth Operation Farm autumn festival and with the assistance of Recycling For Greater Manchester and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council we expect it to be the best one yet. We’ll also be demonstrating Operation Farm’s new juicing kit including our new, large apple press and electric scratter.
